In May of 2011, four Hindu men from a radical Hindu nationalist and military group called the R.S.S. Group (Ready for Selfless Service) kidnapped one of our local Indian pastors named “Pastor James” in the village where we were building our first Fuel India Grammar School. After beating him severely, they left him on the side of the road for dead. Both legs were broken and his shoulders and skull were cracked from the severe beating. Unconscious, he wasn’t expected to live. The R.S.S. Group claimed their attack against Pastor James was their retaliation for our Fuel India Director’s conversion to Christianity and their attempt to stop the progress of the Christian religion. When our Fuel India Director went to confront the attackers they made their message very clear.
“If you do not stop sharing about Jesus, we will kill you.”
Knowing that our Fuel India Director had been persistent albeit unsuccessful in his 8-year attempt to complete a church building in his own home village (which was comprised of 99% Hindus and the rest Muslims) the Hindu group issued a challenge, “If you can build a church building by December 25, 2011, then we will stop harassing you and anyone that becomes a Christian. If you cannot complete the church by that date you must renounce Christianity and return to our faith.”
Our Fuel India Director accepted the challenge.
In order to meet the challenge, our Fuel India Director must raise $21,000 to complete the church by the December 25 deadline. In a recent interview he stated. “I do not want the help of the Fuel organization in America. I want my people to know that God has done this and that He is real.”
Then on Monday, October 3rd, we received correspondence from our Fuel India Director that the president of the R.S.S. Group in his region came to him in distress. The president was experiencing a recurring dream for the past week. In the dream, the president had cancer and the only one who could help him was our Fuel India Director! Our Fuel India Director then shared about Christ and Christianity with the president of the R.S.S. Group. Immediately, the president tore up the contract and said he wanted to be friends with our Fuel India Director! This is a MIRACLE!!
We want to continue to help our Fuel India Director build a church in his hometown by Christmas. As of October 2011, $2,800 has been raised. Having a church in this community is greatly needed and will be one more testimony to these Hindu and Muslim people of our miracle working God!
